About
Sabina Khorramdel (born 1991) is an artist based between Dushanbe and New York. She received her bachelors in Film and Media at Purchase College SUNY, where she primarily focused on sound art. Inspired by Pauline Oliveros’ sonic meditations, Khorramdel began to develop a practice of deep listening, tuning herself to inner and outer environments through sound. This experience led her to intuitive drawing with closed eyes, allowing her to transcend the analytical mind, expand her internal space, and release a flow of energy from within.
Khorramdel often translates dreams and visions experienced during meditation into her art. Engaged in studying mythologies and archetypes, she intuitively deciphers their messages and codes. Her artistic practice is strongly connected to specific places, with each artwork reflecting a journey to find a spot, honor its spirits, and connect to a channel of the collective subconscious. The artist regards herself as an ambassador of belonging.
In 2023, she co-founded the Ruyò Journal, a platform dedicated to fostering Central Asian cultural discourse and supporting its community. Khorramdel’s foundation of Ruyò provides a vessel for returning to the region, grounding herself in its soil, and building a foundation to continue exploring the magical properties of channeling internal and external environments for greater harmony.
